How do I set up my own buisness!?
I want to set up a buisness selling products with my poems printed on, I have sold 30 magnets so far and want to start making more things with my poems on like, cards, notbooks etc. I dont want a buisness loan or anything as i want to start small at the moment. I have sold 30 magnets so far, in a week, to family and friends. I would like to do an online website and sell through that, but do i have to register as a buisness? how? Do I need to register a trade name? How? Im new to all this! Also does anyone know any good websites I can set up my website with (free if poss!).

First, you are doing well to start small and test your concept. The next step is to sit down and budget for the next several months, making a column for each month, starting with the cash that is in the business, subtracting what you will need to pay for new inventory and expenses and adding what you are reasonably confident that you can make. You will want to have this on a spreadsheet program like Excel, because you will want to move it forward, add rows and adjust it as the business grows.
Next, test your potential new market outlets. It is pretty cheap and easy to set up a website; you may also want to put some of the products on E-Bay and other sites to get a tiny bit more exposure. Explore possible free sources of promotion, like newspaper stories about your “unique” business.
Try going to smaller shops that sell “nick-knacks” and gift items. They may stock your product or take it on consignment.
You don’t need to register a trademark right away, but if you have a unique name, get it out there and save dated copies of marketing materials to show the earliest that you used the mark. Its not a bad idea, if there is any ambiguity about date, to seal a copy and mail it to yourself to hold in the event of a challenge. You should also go on the internet and check to se if people are using the same name that you want to use as a trademark. Prior use will give priority. heck the search registry at the patent and trademark office. You can use it by going to Google and putting in “trademark search.”
