Is it possible to create a machine that goes on forever?
Is a perpetual motion machine (that is, a machine that violates the second law of thermodynamics) possible to create if it is contained in a vacuum?
For example, consider the following thought experiment:
place two magnets (of opposite charges) in the vacuum of space. Position these magnets in such a way as to create a motor that seemingly goes on forever because the magnets are constantly repelling each other, thereby creating a circular (orbit) movement.
Permanent magnets will not make a continuous rotary motion, that is why electric motors require an alternating voltage. They just rotate until the poles are aligned and stop.
