can hard drives magnetically hurt other hard drives nearby?

i have a bunch of old hard drives – is it bad to store them in a stack, touching each other? i’m wondering about magnetic fields. i’ve heard hard drives have amazingly powerful magnets. clearly they don’t harm themselves (or others nearby in a case), but can they harm each other if they are stacked on top of each other? seems unlikely, but i figured i’d ask…

No, simple magnets do not harm most if not all data, especially hard drives. STRONG magnets would, but simple ones, no. And they are simple in hard drives – hard drives don’t have enough magnetism strength to make a paperclip do anything.

The one thing I would do is put each drive in an appropriate bag to prevent possible electro-static discharge later and to ensure the boards don’t get damaged as you slide them in and out of the stack.
